a bit of bird words

Re: Sudoku

It was very funny to come across crescendo's post about sudoku because I've started to get the itch to play another Picross game, but I always have sudoku in the back of my mind. Knowing that I can play sudoku on my Kobo is...frightfully tempting!

I'm a bit past the days when I would solve a different sudoku every day, or just when I was bored (apps are dangerous things), but I still fondly think about the variant sudoku I solved (and watched Cracking the Cryptic solve!) on a regular basis. Nowadays I have akari and enclose.horse to satisfy the part of my brain that likes to solve a little puzzle.

But dang that post makes me want to return to solving variant sudoku. One of the joys of them, alongside akari actually, is that one can be reasonably sure that the puzzle is hand-crafted. Setting is a complex art from what I can see (also speaking from my own experience setting for akari) and the result is a beautiful conversation between setter and solver: they want you to find the next step in the logical path, want to see you unfold the puzzle bit by bit until you arrive at the conclusion.

I think I've talked myself into solving sudoku regularly again...
