a bit of bird words

just a nice moment in the evening

Sometimes you find yourself in a Moment, a brief window where the beauty of the world catches in your throat.

I had one of those today, so I'm going to capture it in words as best I can.

It's evening, though it's hard to tell that here. The sun sets so late this time of year, this far north. The light is golden, just barely passing through the windows.

The sounds of Masakatsu Takagi's new album drift gently through the rooms. The pan on the stove is sizzling gently, the smell of frying onions starting to find its way to eager noses.

The balcony door is open; the late-spring breeze is stopping by for dinner, cool and refreshing. You're standing on the balcony, watching the hares in the field. You get my attention when the whole lot of them gets a case of the zoomies and they chase each other around the illuminated grasses.

I think when you spend a part of your life trying, earnestly, to pretend you don't inhabit the world, the moments where you suddenly find yourself fully within your body, your self, feel so much grander. I felt fully in that moment, in this world, and there were so many pieces of it that I love dearly: the smell of food. The sounds of piano and wildlife. The cool breeze and setting sun. My partner.

"How rare and beautiful," the song Saturn goes, "it truly is that we exist." How beautiful indeed.
