a bit of bird words

dry erase boards are literal magic

some time ago i noodled on the idea of getting a big dry erase calendar that i could stick to the fridge. i wanted this so i could write down the meals for the week in a place that wasn't just my phone.

in the end we really just needed an average dry erase board, and let me tell you. it's magic.

it's not just that we both write in whatever we plan to make for the day. it's not just that i moved the plant-watering schedule to it (in the form of a cute icon at top-right with the date) and find it easier to remember this without prompting than a phone reminder.

it's also because we frequently draw goofy shit on there, oftentimes just to make the other person smile or laugh. the board has useful info on it still, but we fill it with doodles that i take a picture of before they're wiped from the board. it is a persistent source of joy.

the dry erase board was already a part of my personal, maybe-secret plan to go More Physical and Less Multi-Use with some aspects of my life, but i'm still so pleased both at how it's worked so well and at the things i couldn't have expected.
