birdwatching
despite being named after a bird, i wouldn't say i've ever really been a "bird person" so to speak. i liked birds, thought they were pretty cool, but i had always been...well, just not a bird person. more a cat person, or a dragon person. if i thought real hard about it, it would probably be due to my mom; she grew up hating birds due to a traumatic life event.
i'm not quite sure when my attitude about birds changed, but boy howdy do i love birds. where i live now gives me a lot of opportunity to see a lot of very cute, very interesting birds. only recently have i been trying to identify them though, with the help of an app (and maybe, eventually, a book? i used to have a reference book for birds in north america, but that's not very handy in europe).
this is just a quick list of some of the birds i have seen:
- great tit (talgoxe)
- eurasian blue tit (blåmes)
- hooded crow (kråka)
- eurasian magpie (skata)
- great spotted woodpecker (större hackspett)
- rock dove (klippduva)
- eurasian blackbird (koltrast)
- eurasian nuthatch (nötväcka)
- eurasian tree sparrow (pilfink)
- house sparrow (gråsparv)
maybe next time i'll cover some of the mysterious and/or migratory visitors we've had, but these are the birds i see almost daily. it's been especially nice to see blackbirds land on the edge of the balcony in winter and puff themselves up. they'll sit silently for a time, as though they too are pondering the bleak landscape before them.
